Back in 1921 Willie Laing bought over an existing joinery business in the historic village of Grantown-on-Spey in the heart of Speyside and started the family firm of AW Laing.
Initially the joinery components made in the High Street workshop were transported on large hand carts to the various sites, confining the distance of travel to local areas. By the late 1970s technology had advanced and AW Laing were manufacturing kits to high Scandinavian standards for a Norweigan company, delivering them to the Western Isles and the Shetlands. During the 1980s the firm invested in computerised equipment, which enabled the high standards already achieved to be maintained and also increased the range of house kits available.
