Joanna Wilson Art

Joanna Wilson’s art is a paradox of thoughtful drawing and exuberant expressionism. Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, there is a lilting quality to her handling of form reminiscent of the glens where she grew up. But her figurative compositions often incorporate industrial elements, which seem to reference the urban environments where she has also lived and worked as an artist. She graduated from the Edinburgh College of Art and the Wimbledon School of Art, before work and further study took her far and wide, from the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Albert Hall to Yale University.

The recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, Joanna’s art can be found in public and private collections throughout the world. Her paint-pouring and mindfulness workshop, Go With the Flow, reflects her growing interest in the metaphysical power of art and has sold out several times at various venues throughout the North East. She has been selected as a Featured Artist by Saatchi Art Online and exhibits frequently in her local area, most recently opening her own gallery space in Grantown-on-Spey.

OPENSPACE and THE VAULT exist with the aim to showcase not only Joanna’s work but also to support other up-and-coming artists in connecting their work with new audiences. Her custom-built studio, also in Grantown, is a hive of creativity. There you will find her multitasking (she is a mother of four), helping out a friend, or ‘making a mess’ … as she so humbly describes her creative process! Most recently, Joanna helped initiate the Grantown Open Studios event in partnership with the Grantown Business Association. Driven by her passion for celebrating art and creativity, this project reflects her vision of transforming Grantown-on-Spey into the creative capital of the Cairngorms. She looks forward to welcoming visitors and sharing the vibrant artistry of her community.
